West African percussion classes are offered at the beginning and intermediate level. These classes teach the music and rhythms of West Africa, primarily those of the Mandingue people in the modern-day countries of Guinea, Ivory Coast, Mali, Gambia, & Burkina Faso. Classes are based on the teachings of the Tam Tam Mandingue Djembe Academy, founded by Master Djembefola Mamady Keita.
These classes focus on the djembe and dunun drums. A limited number of djembes are available for use, although students are encouraged to get their own full-sized drum. A dunun set is also available for class use.
No adult classes are currently scheduled.
